I've been looking at our resupply plans and noticed that it is around 140 miles between Mojave and Kennedy Meadows. Too long for us. Is anyone planning to resupply in Onyx or Lake Isabella?

Ladies, none of these take as much strength as "Grew a Human Being in my Body" but there are a few manly points.

So what are people using to store food in outside of the Sierras? Anyone bothering with an Ursack? Is anyone actually planning on hanging their food every night? I'm not one to be overly concerned with bears or rodents, but think I should put my food in something other than a grocery bag. Was looking at lining a stuff sack with an Opsak, or maybe getting the Sea to Summit Trash sack that I saw on someones gear list. Any thoughts?

went and got gear; sleeping bag (hi-tec 15*) and ground pad (therma lite closed cell foam). now it's off to my advisor to see what he will suggest next:) i love having friends who geek out as hard as i do on researching gear.

is an ice axe really necessary for the high sierra?

This is just to get a feel for what might be considered the average but I'm curious how much weight we will all be carrying. My base with everything (down to the gram) is 12.6 lbs. I'll be glad to send a gear list to anyone but Didn't want to post it because I hate people telling me if I should or should not be carrying something. so without starting a war and without asking for negative comments. What is your base weight?

Hey Guys, 2010 and 2011 I hiked the AT in Keen sandals, they were great, in the snow I wore 2 pair wool socks and had no problems feet wet but not cold. The water crossings I just waded in they dried out very quickly. What I want to know has anyone had any experience with hiking the PCT in keen Sandals? I had no problems with stones, twigs etc. The type I have, have a great toe box so no sore or bruised toes. And no Blisters ever.
I would not wear boots, but not sure if trail runners would be better than my keen sandals.

Well, I am going to go with the Hennessy Ultra Lite Hammock. My put together hammock and nylon tarp worked will on the CT but I have decided to shave some wight by going with this 1.5 lb sleep system.

Something to consider instead of an ice axe: Black Dimond Whippet- I have one of these and I love it. When you are crossing a steep snow slope, you really want to have your poles in your hands, people tend to just keep ice axes on their pack where they are just dead weight. Using this you still have your pole and you have a self arrest tool. It didn't bother me at all to have the pick on there while hiking. They used to make a model that was just the top segment of a pole and you used the bottom of your normal pole. It was called the Whippet Trek, but I can't find it online anymore.

So, I'm reading Yogi's planning guide and the book is talking about electronics and iPods. Several entries describe how they didn't use iPods on their trip and sang the same song for a week. LMAO. I do that too. On the CT this year I couldn't get one in particular zac brown band song out. Has anyone experienced this?
