Thought it would be a good idea to call the bank and cc companies and let them know what I'm up to. I'm driving out to CA from Maine and back afterwards, a different route each time. This made listing off the names of all 28 states I'd be traveling through very entertaining. Luckily the phone center person was a good sport.

Hey guys! I'm here to talk about maps again.
We need 1 more person to sign up for maps in order to get the first step of discounting! So Now is as good a time as ever to sign up!
Second: I still need someone to step up and deal with money. I promise that you do not want a 17 year old dealing with your cash. One idea that I had was maybe setting up funding through a kickstarter, that way, if we do not get the minimum order of 20, there is not a huge pool of money sitting around.

I've been looking at our resupply plans and noticed that it is around 140 miles between Mojave and Kennedy Meadows. Too long for us. Is anyone planning to resupply in Onyx or Lake Isabella?

So what are people using to store food in outside of the Sierras? Anyone bothering with an Ursack? Is anyone actually planning on hanging their food every night? I'm not one to be overly concerned with bears or rodents, but think I should put my food in something other than a grocery bag. Was looking at lining a stuff sack with an Opsak, or maybe getting the Sea to Summit Trash sack that I saw on someones gear list. Any thoughts?

went and got gear; sleeping bag (hi-tec 15*) and ground pad (therma lite closed cell foam). now it's off to my advisor to see what he will suggest next:) i love having friends who geek out as hard as i do on researching gear.

I love this virtual container we're co-creating. I feel like I'm just taking a zero and we'll be laughing together on the trail (or at the restaurant) tomorrow morning. I do currently smell better :)

Thanks everyone for your input re: maps I have decided to get the Halfmile maps, and do possibly a bounce box send the beer vault I have, the maps and other odd stuff to Kennedy Meadows from Campo, and then bounce up the trail as I go. So I am now on the Halfmile map list. Whatt I need now is to be able to have the maps when printed sent to a USA address and then get them posted to me in OZ. Of course I would send money its going to be about $30 US to post to me in OZ. Any offers please.

i wanna know who the crazies are in the class of 2012... i know im 1 of them, been told it a million times, im going completely hellen keller (no maps, compass, watch) 3 food drops, and a bunch of gear that most people wont carry (bong, dslr, uke, harmonica) anyone....anyone...?

Its not the money its the logistics of posting maps. Getting them to Australia, getting them back to the states. Sending them up the trail relying on others to do this may be an issue.

Are there any points on the trail where a resupply package must be sent where there is to great a distance in between any possible trail towns or lodges to stock upon goodies?

After reading Ron's deodorant thread....got me to thinking. Shampoo and conditioner? Do any other hikers worry about this sort of thing......or do you just wait to get into a trail town or hotel to get a good shower? I DO carry 2 small bottles of each because that is one thing I just have to do.....at least the conditioning part. Even if it's in a stream or campground faucet. So, Let's hear it......

I just vented my frustration via Email, to the PCTA - Not sure if any of you view my irritation with this the same way, and I truly DON'T do politics, but I take issue in the PCTA only offering FedEx (at insane prices)... It costs me $4 to send shirts to people via the USPS, so why $11 via Fed ex for a package weighing the same? "Dear PCTA,
Howdy.... I purchased a bundle of maps to distribute to friends a few months back and was saddened to find that you're not supporting the USPS - OUR MAIN SUPPLY LIFELINE on the PCT. Today, as I was about to buy the Data Book, I've decided something needs to be done about this. The shipping via Fed Ex costs MORE than the Data book, just as the maps that I purchased. I'm disgusted by this.
So as we're all gearing up to hike the PCT this year, (pinching pennies to do so) and I'm shipping all of my drops everywhere there's a Post Office available, I would like to know why the PCTA doesn't use the USPS !??? I don't care for politics and protests, but it's simply obvious to me that the PCTA is supporting the wrong shipping service. When you're posting about possible Post Office closures along the trail, did it cross anyone's mind that it's lack of support that's causing such closures?

I decided to hike the PCT in order to see what I was made of. Since I just found out that I am made of approximately 5.1 x 10^27 atoms, I am pleased to announce that I will no longer need to engage in such an arduous journey to settle this matter. And if perhaps you were considering hiking for the same reason, you can thank me at the KO (which I am attending for reasons I prefer to keep to myself) for saving you the time, money, and general hassle of putting your life in the real world on hold for five to six months.
