Any one out there going to do a pre PCT hike? May I suggest the Arizona trail. AZT hikers can crash at my place in Flagstaff. If your solo I can grab you on my tandem bike, otherwise, it is just a mile west on Butler ave to Guinopollis, buses run every half hour from the trail to my house. Their is a natural food supermarket a block away too for your resupply.

save been looking at pct stuff lately and probably a lot of pictures of the southern and northern terminus. what is the craziest thing you have seen someone doing at the terminus'? i am thinking about backflipping off the top this year and capturing a photo of me upside down next to it. :)

I came across this about MAPS from another site. You can effectively use a compass with any of the map sets. (Yogi has no maps)
The PCT is a very well marked trail. You will rarely use the maps out of necessity thanks to all the hard-working folks maintaining the trail. But at some point you will refer to them.
What you will rely on heavily is the data book. You will frequently refer to it seeking out distances to your next water stop, town stop, landmark, etc. Halfmile and Erik have maps but no data book. Searching a map for locations far up the trail and extracting distances is a major pain. Yogi's data book is Ben Go's data used by permission, but Yogi has no maps at all. ...

Saw this yesterday evening: "Last year was a heavy snow year in the Sierras. This year/season, as of Jan 4th, according to the California Department of Water Resources reports the snow pack is one of the lowest on record. Southern Sierra snow is reported to be 26% of normal and central Sierra snow is just 13% of normal."

Dear Mom, Thank you for returning the Gos. Gear poles you bought me for Xmas - sorry about that. When I sent you a list of things I still needed @ Mountain Gear to buy instead, I meant for you to pick one, or two things - Not EVERYTHING - but don't worry, I'm graciously accepting all of it. The PCT c/o 2012 suggestion for socks I wanted ( Smartwool PhD ), that was so I could try them out... SIX PAIR is likely more than I'll need over the 2650 miles. I know you know I love me some Smartwool though... Good Mom... Very. Good. Mom.
